Welcome to Samurai Karate New Zealand

"Life is like a martial arts practice hall, a dojo. A place you go to practise being the best you can be.

But the true combat in the dojo is not between one person and another as most people believe it to be.

The true combat in the dojo is between the people within ourselves." Michael Gerber.

With Samurai Karate you will experience a traditional Japanese style of karate called Shukokai.

Shukokai is a hard and fast style of karate with emphasis on self defence.

Traditional dojo etiquette and discipline are also important in training.

Shukokai - "way for all" - has aspects that are suitable for men, women and children of all ages.

Shukokai was begun by Sensei Tani Chojiro in 1949 with a programme that allows for all members to train and improve at their own pace.

The Honbu Dojo is today run by Kaicho Kawata Shigemasa in Kobe, Japan.

Samurai Karate International's Senior Instructor is Hanshi Paul Mitchell 9th Dan Hanshi, a direct student of Tani Chojiro, of Kimura Shigeru and of Kawata Shigemasa.
